UN award for Man. court project.


Manitoba's provincial court The Provincial and Territorial Courts in Canada are local trial "inferior" or "lower" courts of limited jurisdiction established in each of the provinces and territories of Canada.  Domestic Violence Front End Project will receive the 2006 United Nations Public Service Award for improving service delivery. The award recognizes best practices and innovation with real and broad impacts in the public service.

Manitoba's Front End project helps make better use of court time and safeguards victims of domestic violence by making the system work more effectively and efficiently.

The project includes:

* strict disclosure deadlines by police,

* assignment of a single Crown attorney to each case when it enters the system,

* pre-trial co-ordinators presiding pre·side
