UMWA RESPONDS TO NEW WARWICK MINING CO.

WASHINGTON, Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- The United Mine Workers of America issued the following statement in response to claims by New Warwick Mining Co. that the UMWA has refused to enter contract negotiations with the company:
The United Mine Workers of America still remains ready, willing and able to enter into contract negotiations directly with New Warwick Mining Co. despite the fact that each of our attempts to initiate negotiations with New Warwick have been rebuffed. In fact, New Warwick has refused to comply with even the most basic information requests from the UMWA related to collective bargaining.
It would be gratifying if the management at New Warwick put as much time and effort into working with us to negotiate a contract as they have in mounting a misleading public relations campaign.
