Its name derives from its crescent-like shape, with the convex portion facing roughly northeast and the concave portion southwest.  High teammates. A good example of such passion was Tuesday's 81-39 Pacific League rout of visiting Muir.

Umemoto was sprawled on the floor, the painful victim of an inadvertent knee to the head by a Mustangs player in the second quarter.

Staggering off the court and sitting for the remainder of the first half, the sophomore guard spent much of the break begging Crescenta Valley coach Damian Damian, also spelled Damien, can refer to:

``She came up to me and said, `Scrib, can I go back in?' I'm looking at the scoreboard (which read Falcons 44, Mustangs 18) and wondering,'' Scribner said. ``Then I'm looking into the eyes of that guard and telling her to take a few warmup shots. Then she's back in the game diving diving

Umemoto scored 10 of her 14 points in the third quarter, when the No. 1-ranked Falcons outscored Muir 29-7.

``I knew I had to play because we were so short of guards,'' said Umemoto, referring to the absence of Tara Gregory, who has a sprained ankle A sprained ankle, also known as a ankle sprain, ankle injury or ankle ligament injury, is a common medical condition where one or more of the ligaments of the ankle is torn or partially torn. .

Umemoto added eight assists and five rebounds for the Falcons (12-1, 2-0).

She brings a lot of her enthusiasm with her onto the court,'' said senior Michelle Greco.

Greco narrowly missed a triple-double. She had eight assists to go with 33 points and 13 rebounds.

The presence of Muir (6-8, 1-1), the defending Southern Section III-AA champion, provided Greco with extra incentive, though the rebuilding Mustangs lost six of their top seven players from a year ago.

``Muir is Muir. We have to respect them. Every time we play them we expect a good game,'' Greco said. ``We didn't come in and expect a win.''

But Crescenta Valley didn't waste any time in disposing of its rival. With Greco hot early, the Falcons raced to a 22-3 lead and then pulled away at halftime behind a 13-3 run.

``We were playing (Muir's) game, throwing the ball away and running with them,'' Greco said.
