ULTRAPHONE DEPLOYED IN INDIA TO ASSIST WITH EARTHQUAKE DISASTER RELIEF EFFORTS

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa., Nov. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- InterDigital Communications Corporation (AMEX: IDC) announced today that its UltraPhone(R) Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) digital wireless radiotelephone system will be loaned to assist the Indian Department of Telecommunications with earthquake disaster relief efforts in the Maharashtra State of India.
InterDigital has offered its assistance to supplement the remaining telecommunications network in the earthquake-affected area centered around the town of Ausa and to help with relief and re-construction operations.
"We were informed that the Indian government was approached by several U.S. and foreign telecommunications companies offering communications equipment for assistance," stated William Erdman, president and CEO of InterDigital. "We are pleased that InterDigital was among the companies chosen. This is an opportunity for us to assist the relief efforts and to introduce UltraPhone to the large Indian market."
"We are deeply concerned for the victims of this terrible tragedy and are glad to be of assistance to India in its time of need," said Delbert E. Winn, InterDigital's vice president, Business Development. "Our Ultraphone system will assist with the relief efforts and speed up the recovery and reconstruction process."
UltraPhone has been used worldwide in emergency and disaster relief applications because of its fast deployment, call privacy and wide area of coverage on a fixed and mobile basis. It has been deployed in south Florida after Hurricane Andrew, in Kuwait City after the removal of Iraqi forces, in New York state after the Avianca Airlines crash, in Wyoming after the large Yellowstone National Forest fire and in many other locations worldwide.
