Overview The Dow Chemical Company is currently the second largest chemical manufacturer in the World (after BASF)[1]. , Midland, MI, has announced that the Union Carbide Union Carbide Corporation (Union Carbide) is one of the oldest chemical and polymers companies in the United States, and currently has more than 3,800 employees. Corp. will cease manufacturing operations for UES at Union Carbide's Somerset, NJ, facility. In a related decision, Union Carbide has disclosed plans to shut down this site. Productivity improvements achieved during the last two years permit closing the site. UES recently announced an overall plan to upgrade North America UES manufacturing facilities through a series of investments and site closures. This facility manufactures latex for use in paints, coatings, adhesives, and sealants, and employs approximately 28 people who will have the opportunity to seek other positions within Dow. Production at Somerset was scheduled to cease during the second quarter of 2004. |
