Attias is reported to be the son of a television director Daniel Attias and his wife, Diana.

``He has never been arrested in our county or had any (prior) contacts with our department,'' Burridge said. ``He has not had any prior criminal history to our knowledge.''

Burridge said the department is checking into the possibility that the crash was intentional, which is part of a routine investigation.

He said news accounts of witnesses reporting Attias shouting ``I am the Angel of Death'' have not been confirmed.

``We have been unable to confirm or locate those witnesses,'' Burridge said.

Burridge said it would take four to seven days for the results of Attias' blood-alcohol test.

Officials said the suspect was speeding at close to 60 mph in a 25 mph zone when he hit several parked cars at 11:08 p.m. before slamming into the five pedestrians, who were walking down the street next to the cars. The suspect's 1991 Saab finally came to a stop after it was disabled.
