UCLA flubs test of patient care in new state survey. (Health Care).


UCLA Medical Center UCLA Medical Center is a hospital located on the campus of the University of California, Los Angeles in Los Angeles, California. It is rated as one of the top three hospitals in the United States and is the top hospital on the West Coast according to US News & World Report.  may be one of the top hospitals in the country, but when it comes to bedside manner it apparently has some room for improvement.

The hospital was rated "below average" in the largest-ever survey of patient satisfaction in the state. The survey asked nearly 35,000 patients how hospitals respected their preferences and coordinated their care, among other issues.

 scored "below average" in its overall patient experience -- the core survey rating -- and "average" in its overall patient care rating. It rated "above average" in one area: on whether patients would recommend the hospital to others.

It was among 10 of the 27 participating county hospitals whose overall patient experience was rated below average, including several Kaiser Foundation hospitals, Northridge Hospital Medical Center Northridge Hospital Medical Center is a hospital in the Northridge town of Los Angeles, California, USA. By contrast, 15 county hospitals ranked "average" for patient satisfaction, including Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is a world-renowned hospital located in Los Angeles, California. History
Cedars-Sinai is the result of a merger in 1961 between two major Los Angeles hospitals, Cedars of Lebanon and Mount Sinai Home for the Incurables, with Steve Broidy as
 and UCLA's Santa Monica campus, while just two placed "above average": City of Hope National Medical Center City of Hope is one of 39 NCI-designated Cancer Centers and is located in the city of Duarte, California. City of Hope comprises an ambulatory and in-patient cancer treatment center as well as a biomedical research facility known as the Beckman Research Institute and the City of Hope  and Huntington Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Michael Karpf, UCLA Medical Center's director, released a statement saying it was difficult for a "world class academic medical center" to have the same "intimate, informal feel" as a community hospital. He hoped that a new facility set to open in 2005 would improve patient satisfaction.
