linebacker Rosco Zamano underwent successful surgery to remove a blockage in the artery behind his right knee Saturday night at the University of Michigan (body, education) University of Michigan - A large cosmopolitan university in the Midwest USA. Over 50000 students are enrolled at the University of Michigan's three campuses. The students come from 50 states and over 100 foreign countries.  Hospital, Bruins sports information director Marc Dellins said.

At the end of the four-hour procedure, known as an arterial graft, doctors felt a strong pulse in Zamano's right ankle, meaning circulation had been restored to his lower leg.

He will remain at the hospital for several days.

Zamano, a true freshman True freshman is a term used in NCAA sports, indicating that an athlete is playing the sport in his first year of college, rather than redshirting for one or more years to protect future college eligibility.  linebacker from Fontana, suffered the season-ending injury when he dislocated dis·lo·cate

The surgery revealed that Zamano's popliteal artery popliteal artery

(the inside lining of the artery). The torn intima balled up, preventing blood from passing through the artery.

Vascular surgeons removed the torn lining, then grafted a healthy vein from Zamano's left leg onto the artery to ensure unobstructed circulation.

Zamano, who played sparingly, may need surgery again in four to six weeks to repair damaged knee ligaments.

No repeat: Trailing 21-3 at halftime, UCLA coach Bob Toledo Bob Toledo (born March 4, 1946, in San Jose, California) is an American football coach, recently hired as head coach at Tulane University. He is best-known as the thirteenth head coach at UCLA.  turned to the history book for inspiration.

``We told our team that in 1982 (Michigan) was up by 21 points and we came back and won the football game,'' Toledo said. ``We tried to emphasize that at halftime, and we said to hang in there and keep fighting and keep battling. They did a good job, and we didn't play very well.''

Now you have him . . .: The most frustrating play for the UCLA defense was not a Michigan touchdown or one of the countless off-tackle runs. Instead, it was a reverse by receiver cornerback Charles Woodson Charles Woodson (born on October 7, 1976 in Fremont, Ohio) is an American football cornerback for the Green Bay Packers. He played college football at the University of Michigan for the Michigan Wolverines. In 1997, Woodson led the Wolverines to a national championship.  that appeared to be stopped but went for 31 yards.

``When we saw him come in, we all yelled, `No. 2's in the game. Watch the reverse,' '' UCLA strong safety Abdul McCullough said. ``If we had stayed at home, it would have been a 7-yard loss. Instead, it was a (31-yard) gain.''

Running right to left, Woodson found a wall of Bruins waiting for him at the turn, well behind the line of scrimmage line of scrimmage

. He then reversed his field and scampered down the right side.

``That play was perfectly defended,'' Michigan coach Lloyd Carr said.

And more evidence that Woodson, a sophomore, is one of the nation's most gifted players.

Bad? Or not so bad? UCLA quarterback Cade McNown completed 8 of 27 passes for a paltry 39 yards and three interceptions. Was he rattled by dropped passes? By the Michigan defense? Or not at all?

``I was staying level-headed out there,'' he said. ``I didn't think I was forcing things.''

McNown, whose last pass was intercepted, stayed in the game one series longer than Toledo had planned. (Quarterback Steve Buck entered midway through the fourth quarter.)

``I was about ready to make that change and Al (Borges, the offensive coordinator) felt he wanted to go one more series because Cade wasn't playing real well,'' Toledo said. ``We wanted to see if Cade could get one drive going, and he didn't do it. He didn't perform very well.''
