UCLA FOOTBALL NOTEBOOK: HORTON MIGHT GET START.

Byline: Brian Dohn Staff Writer

After missing much of the season with a broken wrist, sophomore free safety Chris Horton could make his first career start for No. 11 UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles
UCLA University Center for Learning Assistance (Illinois State University)
UCLA University of Carrollton, TX and Lower Addison, TX
at No. 1 USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code.  on Saturday.

UCLA wants to play a physical game against the Trojans, and Horton is one of the hardest hitters on UCLA's defense.

``There's a good chance he will (start),'' Bruins defensive coordinator A defensive coordinator typically refers to a coach on a football team in the National Football League or college football who is in charge of the defense. This position aids the head coach a great deal in many ways by delegating play calling to other coaches and allowing the head  Larry Kerr said Tuesday. ``He brings some physicalness and some freshness to the secondary. It's good to have Chris back in the fold. It's been a long time coming for him. He's a tough kid. I'll tell you one thing, he'll hit you, and we need guys like that on the field.''

Kerr said another reason Horton will start is the health of Dennis Keyes, who is third on the Bruins with 56 tackles.

``Dennis has played well all year, but he's beat up a little,'' Kerr said. ``Dennis is just worn down, I think. They're both going to help us win the game, but it's nice to have that option there.''

Horton was the leading candidate to be UCLA's starting free safety in training camp, but he injured in·jure

 in the last four games.

However, with UCLA having two straight bye weeks, Horton was able to work more with the first-team defense, and become familiar with the schemes again.

And Horton reiterated what many people already know. UCLA, which is allowing 219.5 rushing yards per game, must figure out a way to stop the Trojans' running game, which is averaging 249.2 yards per game behind 1,000-yard rushers Reggie Bush Reginald "Reggie" Bush, birth name: Reginald Alfred Bush II (born March 2, 1985 in San Diego, California), nicknamed 'The Human Highlight Reel' and 'The President', alluding to President Bush, is an American football player who plays for the New Orleans Saints of the NFL.  and LenDale White LenDale Anthony White (born December 20, 1984) is an American football running back who plays for the Tennessee Titans. He played for Norm Chow at USC, who is now the Titans' offensive coordinator. His head coach in Tennessee, Jeff Fisher, also played for the USC Trojans. .

``We're going to be physical this whole game, from start to finish,'' Horton said. ``I think we're going to have to line up and stop the run. Without a doubt, we're going to have to stop the run.''

--Injury update: Starting strong tackle Brian Abraham left Spaulding Field on a cart after re-injuring his ankle, and his status for Saturday's game is in question. Abraham was slowed by an ankle injury earlier this season. If he cannot play, Noah Sutherland will start.

Also, tailbacks Chris Markey (knee) and Maurice Drew (hip, knee) and linebacker John Hale John Hale is the name of:

--Also: Long Beach Poly receiver Terrante Austin, who is being recruited heavily by UCLA, attended practice. ... Drew said he anticipated being on UCLA's kick-return team, but isn't concerned about the Trojans kicking away from him. ``I would never kick it away from anyone,'' Drew said.
