UCLA FOOTBALL NOTEBOOK: FSU AN ENIGMA TO BRUINS.

Byline: BRIAN DOHN Staff Writer

SAN FRANCISCO San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden  -- One by one, UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles

players talked about Florida State, its talent, and how the Seminoles finished 6-6.

And one by one, the Bruins couldn't figure it out.

The Seminoles are allowing 19.2 points per game and their offense is scoring 25.1 points per game, and they have speed all over the field.

``They're a good team. I don't see why they struggle, honestly, like they did,'' UCLA cornerback Rodney Van said. ``They had the players and the schemes and things. I don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

how in-tune they are to the game at all times. Sometimes it seems like they were playing lazy.

``I'm not trying to put bad press out there. I just saw something in them. It's the traditional Florida State team, but they don't have that killer instinct killer instinct n to have the killer instinct → ir a por todas

A big part of the problem is quarterback play. The Seminoles will start Drew Weatherford Andrew S. (Drew) Weatherford (born June 22, 1985) is a quarterback for the Florida State Seminoles at Florida State University. College career
Drew Weatherford, as a redshirt freshman, led the Seminoles to an Orange Bowl berth in 2005, but his #22 Seminoles lost to #3
(11 touchdowns, 10 interceptions), but backup Xavier Lee Xavier Lee (born January 9, 1986) is a redshirt junior and the starting quarterback for the 2007 Florida State Seminoles football team at Florida State University. College Career  (7 TDs, 5 INTs) could also play.

Lorenzo Booker, a former St.Bonaventure High of Ventura star, is a talented tailback, but he has had very little room to run. He is averaging a career-low 4.3 yards per carry, and the Seminoles are gaining 95.8 yards per game on the ground behind an offensive line averaging 305 pounds.

``I think their wideouts are good enough, they have a good running back, they've got a big offensive line,'' UCLA defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker said. ``They're kind of scary. I think by playing two quarterbacks, you don't see the consistency week in and week out. But they've shown they're capable of putting up numbers.''

Dorrell vs. Bowden: While an assistant coach at Colorado, Bruins coach Karl Dorrell visited Florida State to gain a better understanding of how one of the top programs in the nation was run.

To Dorrell, it is clear who has the advantage when it comes to facing off with Florida State's 77-year-old coach, Bobby Bowden, whose 365 career wins at the major-college level is a record.

``There's no comparison by what he knows, and what he's done in his career compared to myself,'' Dorrell said. ``I'm a little bit awestruck awe·struck   also awe·strick·en
