UCLA FOOTBALL NOTEBOOK: DAVIS' KNEE INJURY A CONCERN.

Byline: Vincent Bonsignore Staff Writer

With just under two minutes remaining in UCLA's second-to-last spring football practice, an agonizing yell could be heard at Spaulding Field on Tuesday, followed by a hushed silence as UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles

Bruce Davis (born June 21, 1956, in Rutherfordton, North Carolina) is a former professional American football player.
, who lay on the ground clutching his left knee.

Davis, whose impressive performance this spring thrust him into the defensive line rotation mix, injured the knee during the final moments of a scrimmage. After lying on the ground for three or four minutes, the junior was carted off the field for further examination.

UCLA coach Karl Dorrell Karl Dorrell (born December 18, 1963 in Alameda, California) is the first black head coach in the history of the UCLA Bruins college football team, a position he took on December 18, 2002.  said Davis will undergo an MRI 1. (application) MRI - Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

The Bruins can only hope Davis' injury is just a temporary setback considering how thin they've been along the defensive line. In fact, they've spent much of the spring session piecing together a unit for practices and scrimmages while starters Brigham Harwell, Kevin Brown The name Kevin Brown can refer to several different people, including the following:

``It's unfortunate but it's part of the game and it happens,'' Dorrell said. ``You have to continue to work and be completive against one another and unfortunately those things happen.''

Aside from the Davis scare, Dorrell seemed pleased with the progress the Bruins have made as they wind up their spring practice session. With one practice left, he said he's got a better feel for the team he'll assemble in training camp next August.

UCLA came into spring practice looking to replace a quarterback, running back, tight end and a large part of its offensive line. Dorrell isn't ready to announce new starters at all the open spots - except for Ben Olson at quarterback - but he definitely feels better about things today then he did a month ago.

``I think we have the capability of being a very good football team,'' Dorrell said.
