A more detailed interview with the alleged victim of an assault led to charges being filed against two UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles

 football players nearly three months after the altercation, a district attorney said Friday.

Starting linebacker John Hale John Hale is the name of:

 and reserve defensive lineman Jess Ward, both freshmen, pleaded not guilty to felony assault on Thursday in San Bernardino San Bernardino, city, United States

 Superior Court. Warrants for the two were issued Wednesday, stemming from a Feb. 19 altercation during a party at the home of Ward's parents in Running Springs.

``It was based on an in-depth interview with the victim,'' said Annemarie Pace, the deputy district attorney. ``It was just about the involvement of the two UCLA students. It was a more detailed account.''

Two other men -- Casey Coniglio, a former teammate of Ward's at Rim of the World High in Lake Arrowhead Lake Arrowhead may refer to:

  • Lake Arrowhead, Georgia
  • Lake Arrowhead, Maine
  • Lake Arrowhead (New Jersey)
, and Franco Serrato -- were arrested Feb. 20.

But criminal charges against Hale and Ward could lead the way for a civil suit against either, sources said. Their next court date is May 17.

--Also: UCLA junior Hannah Jun has rejoined the women's golf team. She suffered injuries in a Dec. 10 auto accident which led to the arrest of Bruins placekicker Justin Medlock for driving under the influence of alcohol.
