He was selected in the second round of the 2006 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Bobcats.  couldn't get it done, and neither could senior Michael Fey. That left sophomore Lorenzo Mata as UCLA's best next option at center, and usually that means little.

However, Mata's tenacious play gave the Bruins an inside presence, and he matched his career-high with eight points and grabbed eight rebounds as No. 16 UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles

``I just wasn't feeling good about our production (from Hollins or Fey),'' UCLA coach Ben Howland Ben Howland (born May 28, 1957 in Lebanon, Oregon) is an American college head coach of men's basketball.

He has been the head coach of the University of California, Los Angeles since 2003, and recently signed a contract extension through 2013.
said. ``I thought Lorenzo came in and really gave us great minutes.''

Hollins and Fey combined for zero points and three rebounds in 19 minutes. Mata, who didn't play in two of UCLA's first four games, matched his career-high with 22 minutes, and also had two steals and blocked a shot. He had four points in 21 minutes this season.

``Just to have a game like this in Madison Square Garden feels good,'' the 6-foot-8 Mata said. ``When I get in, I just try to play hard. I got a couple of rebounds and felt confident and I kept going up. Nobody was blocking out, so I had opportunities. So I just went and got the ball.''

--Aboya eyes comeback: UCLA hoped to have freshman power forward Alfred Aboya back the first week of December, but he said it would be ``two more weeks'' before he makes his collegiate debut.

``I'll be back in two weeks'' Aboya said. ``Don't worry. I'll be back.''

It could put Aboya in uniform for the Dec. 10 Wooden Classic matchup with Nevada.

Aboya had arthroscopic left knee surgery Oct. 12, but doctors advised him to rehab more slowly. He began running last week, and is hoping to begin basketball activities in a week.

--Trouble inside: Even with Mata playing well inside, Drexel was able to score inside with Chaz Crawford and Frank Elegar. The duo combined for 21 points on 10-of-18 shooting, and also had 11 rebounds.

It forced UCLA to double team the low post, and gave a glimpse of what Howland expects when the Pac-10 season begins.

``Their big guys were really a problem,'' Howland said. ``We're going to have to double team more than I would like, in the post.''
