Their participation in the parking scam was uncovered by the UCLA Police Department during an internal investigation.

``The criminal investigation against (Whitfield and Brown) is continuing, and if we develop enough information to warrant presenting it to the city attorney, we'll do that,'' assistant UCLA police chief Karl Ross said.

``The investigation is now campus-wide, not just athletes.''

Brown, a tailback, and Whitfield, a safety, face the same penalties as the players who were disciplined July 28. In addition to the suspension, they must meet with the Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Disability and assist in educational programs to raise awareness about the rights of the disabled.

Mitchell (5-foot-9, 170 pounds) concludes his final summer course today, and his transcripts are not expected to be processed until some time next week. He will then join the team at UC Irvine. The rest of USC's veterans are expected to report today.

Another JC transfer, linebacker Markus Steele of Long Beach City College, is hopeful of receiving his summer transcripts by Friday, which would allow him to participate in USC's opening practice on Saturday.
