UCI Engineering Dean Named Orange County's Engineer of the Year.

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 24, 2001

The Orange County Section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Not to be confused with the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE).

 (IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, New York, www.ieee.org) A membership organization that includes engineers, scientists and students in electronics and allied fields. ) has named Nicolaos G. Alexopoulos, dean of The Henry Samueli Henry Samueli (born September 20, 1954 in Buffalo, New York) is co-founder, chairman, and chief technology officer of the Broadcom Corporation and a philanthropist in the Orange County, California community.  School of Engineering at UC Irvine, the 2001 Engineer of the Year.

The award was presented to Alexopoulos Saturday at the annual IEEE banquet.

The Orange County Engineer of the Year designation is awarded to the person who best reflects the goals of the institute. Alexopoulos' research and his accomplishments as dean were compelling factors in this year's selection, according to the IEEE.

 School of Engineering in 1997, which was renamed The Henry Samueli School of Engineering in 1999. He was on the engineering faculty at UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles

UCLA University of Carrollton, TX and Lower Addison, TX
 from 1969 to 1996, during which time he also served as associate dean for faculty affairs and as chair of the electrical engineering department. He was elected a Fellow of the IEEE in 1986 for his contributions to the understanding of substrate-superstrate effects on printed circuit antennas and integrated microwave circuits. He is the recipient of the IEEE Schelkunoff Best Paper Award in 1985 and 1997.

Alexopoulos, who was born in Athens, Greece, received his bachelor's, master's and doctorate degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan (body, education) University of Michigan - A large cosmopolitan university in the Midwest USA. Over 50000 students are enrolled at the University of Michigan's three campuses. The students come from 50 states and over 100 foreign countries. , Ann Arbor. He has lectured extensively in the United States and throughout the world on subjects ranging from innovative technological trends to the history of engineering and the impact of technology on society.
