"We have no space for research growth at the moment for new recruitments or for new research initiatives," said Sandack.

He said leased space allows the school of medicine and school of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences to continue to grow while the new research facility is built.

There are 23 capital improvement projects on the books at the university totaling $1.6 billion.

Nine of those capital improvement projects are currently under construction including the 50,000 square feet San Diego Supercomputer Center “SDSC” redirects here. For the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, see Satish Dhawan Space Centre.

Matt Xavier, education facilities planner for the campus, said the planning phase for most capital improvement projects is approximately two years with construction lasting 18 to 24 months.
