Casey Sandack, assistant dean, capital planning and space management with UCSD UCSD University of California, San Diego (La Jolla, California) UCSD User Centered System Design UCSD Urbana-Champaign Sanitary District (Illinois) UCSD Ultra Cool Sexy Dudes , said health sciences facilities are at capacity. Currently the school leases space off campus to accommodate researchers and is seeking additional space within the county. Leased Space "We have no space for research growth at the moment for new recruitments or for new research initiatives," said Sandack. He said leased space allows the school of medicine and school of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences to continue to grow while the new research facility is built. Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Architects LLP LLP - Lower Layer Protocol , with an office in Los Angeles, was selected as the project architect. The firm designed Cornell University's nanotechnology research facility, the University of Arizona's bioresearch bi·o·re·search n. The regents approved initial plans March 20 in San Francisco. A UCSD official estimated the project completion date to be in 2011. UCSD occupies 717 buildings and 15.8 million square feet of space both on and off campus. There are 23 capital improvement projects on the books at the university totaling $1.6 billion. Nine of those capital improvement projects are currently under construction including the 50,000 square feet San Diego Supercomputer Center “SDSC” redirects here. Expansion for $49 million, a 48,000-square-foot music building for $54 million and 1,000-bed campus housing project for $122 million. Matt Xavier, education facilities planner for the campus, said the planning phase for most capital improvement projects is approximately two years with construction lasting 18 to 24 months. |
