) Movement, is aimed at promoting further involvement of APRU member institutions. The Open Educational Resources (OER) movement is designed to provide high quality teaching and learning resources for the express purpose of increasing educational achievement and sustaining social and economic development.

Matkin will present his thoughts during Session 2 of the conference, on November 8. "OER has been inspired not only by the belief that it will advance human knowledge, creativity and social welfare," explains Matkin, "but also by the growing success of open source software. OER is based on the notion that knowledge and education are common goods that must be supported by a defined community."

Dr. Gary W. Matkin is dean of continuing education and director of summer session at UC Irvine Extension. He earned his doctorate degree in education from the University of California, Berkeley The University of California, Berkeley is a public research university located in Berkeley, California, United States. Commonly referred to as UC Berkeley, Berkeley and Cal , where he also served as associate dean of continuing education from 1990 to 2000. The author of dozens of books, journal articles and presentations, Matkin is an active member of University Continuing Education Association, the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges, and the Certified Financial Planners Education Task Force.
