UAL CORP. TO SELL AIR WISCONSIN JET BUSINESS TO CJT HOLDINGS, COMPLETING ITS DIVESTITURE PLAN

CHICAGO, July 30 /PRNewswire/ -- UAL Corp. (NYSE: UAL), parent company of United Airlines, stated today that in accordance with its previously announced plan to divest the commuter operations of its wholly-owned Air Wis subsidiary, it has reached agreement to sell the regional jet airline business of Air Wis. The closing of the pending sale of Air Wis' turbo prop business at O'Hare to United Feeder Service, which is expected to occur Sept. 8, 1993, and completion of the sale of the regional jet airline business will conclude the Air Wis divestiture program.
Air Wis operates as a United Express carrier, providing feed traffic to and from United Airlines primarily at O'Hare from medium-sized cities throughout the Midwest.
The purchaser of the jet operations is CJT Holdings, which is controlled by Geoffrey T. Crowley and the principals of Resource Holdings, Ltd.: Richard Bartlett, Jerry Seslowe and John Shaw. Crowley formerly was an executive with Northwest Airlines. The new company, to be known as Air Wisconsin Airlines Corporation (AWAC), will be based in Appleton, Wis.
The new firm will exclusively operate Air Wis' 12 BAe 146 regional jet aircraft and will have the support of British Aerospace's asset management organization. Air Wis currently operates 29 daily scheduled flights from O'Hare International Airport in Chicago and 11 daily scheduled flights from Aspen, Colo. The change in ownership is not expected to have any impact on scheduled service for the carrier's customers.
United Airlines operates more than 430 daily flights at O'Hare International Airport and more than 260 daily flights at Stapleton International Airport.
The sale of Air Wis' jet operations is expected to close about Oct. 1, 1993.
Earlier this year, UAL Corp. sold Air Wis' Dash 8 turboprop operations based at Washington, D.C.'s Dulles International Airport to Atlantic Coast Airlines.
