U2 BRINGS BIZARRE SCENE TO OAKLAND CONCERT.Every seat was sold for Wednesday night's U2 concert at the Oakland Alameda County Coliseum Wednesday night, but they were hardly used. After the first song, ``Mofo'' (off the band's latest album, ``Pop''), sitting down was an option rarely exercised. The band, which will play the Los Angeles Coliseum on Saturday, came in like prizefighters, sauntering through the crowd. Check that. They looked like the Village People impersonating prizefighters. Front man Bono wore a white hooded boxing robe over his black attire, Adam Clayton sported an orange suit, weird hat and surgical mask, and the Edge was decked out like a cowboy. Much of the action during the 21-song, two-hour show took place on a giant screen that flashed images of celebrities (John Belushi, Rod Stewart), a violent liquor store hold-up. A giant yellow, McDonald's-style arc and a tremendous toothpick/olive combo framed the band. |
