U.S. military deaths in Iraq at 3,555


As of Saturday, June 23, 2007, at least 3,555 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. The figure includes seven military civilians. At least 2,903 died as a result of hostile action, according to the military's numbers.

The AP count is 20 higher than the Defense Department's tally, last updated Friday at 10 a.m. EDT.

The British military has reported 153 deaths; Italy, 33; Ukraine, 18; Poland, 20; Bulgaria, 13; Spain, 11; Denmark, seven; El Salvador, five; Slovakia, four; Latvia, three; Estonia, Netherlands, Thailand, two each; and Australia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Romania, South Korea, one death each.

The latest deaths reported by the military:

_ Four soldiers were killed Saturday by a roadside bomb northwest of Baghdad.

_ A U.S. airman was killed Saturday by a roadside bomb in Tikrit.

_ A soldier died Saturday from non-combat related causes in Baghdad.

_ Two soldiers were killed Saturday by an explosive and small arms fire in eastern Baghdad.

The latest identifications reported by the military:

_ Army Spc. Karen N. Clifton, 22, Lehigh Acres, Fla.; died Thursday in Baghdad of wounds suffered when her vehicle was hit with a rocket propelled grenade; was assigned to the 554th Military Police Company, 95th Military Police Battalion, Kaiserslautern, Germany.

_ Army Pfc. Raymond N. Spencer Jr., 23, Carmichael, Calif., died Thursday in Baghdad of wounds suffered when his unit was attacked by insurgents using an explosive and small arms fire; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Bliss, Texas.
