U.S. dollar mixed, gold down


The dollar was mixed against other major currencies Monday. Gold fell.

The euro traded at $1.3534 in European trading, down from $1.3535 late Friday in New York. Later, in midday trading in New York, the euro rose to $1.3544.

Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Friday, included 120.36 Japanese yen, up from 120.23; 1.2196 Swiss francs, up from 1.2189; and 1.1077 Canadian dollars, down from 1.1105.

The British pound traded at $1.9792, down from $1.9829.

In midday New York trading, the dollar bought 120.35 yen and 1.2195 Swiss francs, and the pound was worth $1.9797.

Gold traded in London at $667.60, down from $671.90 late Friday.

In Zurich, the bid price was $667.00, down from $668.30.

Gold rose $6.70 in Hong Kong to $674.35.

Silver traded in London at $13.05, down from $13.22.
