U.S. ROBOTICS LOWERS SPORTSTER HIGH-SPEED MODEM PRICES

SKOKIE, Ill., Nov. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. Robotics, Inc. (NASDAQ: USRX) today announced reduced pricing on its high-speed Sportster fax and data modems. The price cuts, which are effective immediately, reinforce U.S. Robotics' position as a low-cost, high quality producer.
A design enhancement has enabled U.S. Robotics to pass on manufacturing cost savings to customers. Because the company is not reliant on third-party chip set manufacturers, the Sportster modem design is more flexible with fewer built-in costs. The new prices position U.S. Robotics to expand an already solid share of the market, while at the same time giving channel partners opportunities to increase sales.
"For the home office, small business or personal users, lowering expenses is always critical and higher speed connections mean lower phone bills," said Michael Seedman, U.S. Robotics vice president and general manager, personal communications division. "With these price reductions, Sportster can play a leading role in moving these market segments up to high-speed data transmission."
Sportster modems are based on U.S. Robotics' proprietary DSP-based data pump technology, which is also used in Courier, Shared Access and Total Control products. Like all U.S. Robotics products, Sportsters are compliant with ITU-T standards for fax and data transmission, providing complete compatibility.
