). Sybase's technology will provide U.S. Navy personnel with timely, accurate access to critical information anywhere, anytime.

"The Navy supports a highly distributed workforce that requires access to multiple information sources -- very much like today's multinational companies. Sybase's mobile and enterprise portal solutions are ideally suited to provide a single point of integration while extending data access to personnel anywhere in the world," said Jim White, vice president of Sybase's federal division.

SPAWAR and Sybase have developed a wireless Personnel Accountability System (PAS) powered by SQL Anywhere Studio, the market-leading mobile data management and enterprise synchronization solution from Sybase's subsidiary iAnywhere Solutions. This application builds upon the Department of Defense's "Common Access Card" program by providing the Officer on Deck with a stored photo of the cardholder card·hold·er

. Using PAS, the Navy can track the movements of personnel as they enter and leave a ship -- improving security worldwide by sharing timely information with a central data repository.

In addition, SPAWAR will integrate Sybase EAServer into the Navy Tactical Command & Support System (NTCSS), a suite of critical maintenance software applications that ensure peak fleet preparedness and total asset visibility. Navy and Marine Corps personnel use NTCSS to determine the status and capabilities of air, land and sea operating units. EAServer will provide convenient Web-based access to multiple information systems -- ensuring that mission critical information is available anywhere in the world. EAServer is a highly scalable, secure and robust Web application server for e-Portal and Internet business solutions.

The Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) is one of the Department of the Navy's three major acquisition commands. Its mission is to enable knowledge superiority for the war fighter through the development, acquisition and life cycle support of effective, capable and integrated C4ISR C4ISR Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance
