U.S. LONG DISTANCE APPOINTS HENRY CISNEROS TO BOARD SAN ANTONIO, Dec. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. Long Distance Corp.
(NASDAQ: USLD) today announced Henry G. Cisneros, 44, deputy chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, has been appointed to its board of directors. The former four-term mayor of San Antonio is also chairman of a national money management firm, Cisneros Asset Management, managing in excess of $250 million.
"Dr. Cisneros brings so many dimensions and talents to U.S. Long Distance. His affiliations, both in Texas as well as nationally, offer several new opportunities and avenues for the company. He has an obvious ability to function as a professional team member and is eager to contribute significantly to our board efforts," Parris H. Holmes Jr., chairman and chief executive officer of USLD, stated. "Henry's credentials are as numerous as they are impressive. His political career began in 1968 and he has since served in several local and national roles. As a White House Fellow in 1971, he served as an assistant to the Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare. He was interviewed as a possible vice presidential candidate for the Democratic Party in 1984. Currently, Henry sits as co-chairman of the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda and chairman of the National Civic League," Holmes continued. "Henry serves as a board member for several organizations including the Rockefeller Foundation and the Lyndon B. Johnson Foundation. He has received many honorary degrees from universities nationwide. In addition, Henry has earned numerous honors and awards including the 1982 award as one of 'Ten Outstanding Young Men in America' by the U.S. Jaycees," Holmes noted. Cisneros will serve the unexpired term of Martin Cotter as U.S. Long Distance board of director until the 1994 Annual Shareholders Meeting. Cotter resigned earlier this month for personal reasons. In other board of director action, Mark D. Buckner, chief financial officer of USLD, was appointed to fill the vacancy resulting from the November resignation of Richard Garey. Therefore, seven directors will still serve on the USLD board.
