U.S. HEALTHCARE RECEIVES APPROVAL FOR PREMIUM RATE INCREASE

BLUE BELL, Pa., Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. Healthcare, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: USHC), one of the nation's leading providers of managed health care services, today announced that the Insurance Department of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania approved an approximate 5 percent premium rate increase. The approved rates cover the period from Oct. 1, 1993 to Sept. 30, 1994, and apply to about 600,000 commercial HMO members in the Southeastern Pennsylvania area. The new rates become effective as employers renew health coverage for their employees.
U.S. Healthcare said it was very pleased that its efforts to control medical costs and the cooperation it is receiving from health care providers in its network, including primary care physicians, specialists and hospitals, resulted in such a low premium rate increase. The company added that this cooperation is also enabling it to continue to bring high quality, affordable care to Pennsylvania residents.
U.S. Healthcare provides managed health care services through its HMOs in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maryland. The company also provides a variety of other managed health care services, including workers compensation managed care, to self-insured and other employers. In addition, the company offers quality assessment and improvement programs, patient surveys and outcome tracking, and data analysis systems for providers and purchasers of health care.
