U.S. HEALTHCARE ANNOUNCES CONTRACTS FOR U.S. QUALITY ALGORITHMS
BLUE BELL, Pa., Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. Healthcare Inc. (NASDAQ: USHC) today announced that its new patient-outcomes subsidiary, U.S. Quality Algorithms, Inc. (USQA), has won several contracts to help health care insurers and HMOs improve the quality and efficiency of their medical services.
"From its inception, U.S. Healthcare has been at the forefront of the quality movement in medicine," said Steven Zatz, M.D., president of USQA. "Over the years, it has developed tools to measure clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction. USQA now makes these same tools available to other insurers and managed care organizations."
In Massachusetts, USQA is performing a comprehensive quality assessment of the Commonwealth's Primary Care Clinician Program, which provides managed care to Medicaid beneficiaries.
Under an agreement with the largest private health care insurer in Great Britain, USQA will evaluate that insurer's existing programs to identify opportunities to achieve cost savings and improve the quality of care. USQA has contracted to perform a similar assessment for the Health Maintenance Organization of Northeastern Pennsylvania.
"Each of these assessments represents the first phase of a comprehensive program to improve patient care and reduce unnecessary services," Zatz added. "These programs use proven approaches that have been perfected within U.S. Healthcare's own managed-care system." U.S. Healthcare provides managed health care services through its HMOs in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maryland.
Under a fourth agreement, USQA is helping a leading pharmaceutical manufacturer analyze practice patterns and outcomes of patients with selected medical conditions.
In addition to the quality programs offered by its USQA subsidiary, U.S. Healthcare also provides a variety of managed health care services, including workers compensation managed care, to self-insured and other employers.
