U.S. Gyroplane Manufacturer Awarded European Patent.

SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 4, 1997--Groen Brothers Aviation Inc. (GBA) announced today that a European Patent will be awarded on its variable collective pitch-control rotor head.

The patent will be issued from the European Union patent office in Brussels.

The patent specifically endorses GBA's collective pitch-controlled rotor head with infinitely variable pitch in gyroplanes. This is a significant technological breakthrough that makes this type of aircraft an efficient and effective means of flight. GBA is making aviation history with precedent-setting performance from its Hawk gyroplane, including vertical takeoff and landing, made possible by its patented rotor head. GBA holds additional patents in the United States and Australia.

According to David Groen, GBA president, "This patent significantly adds to the acceptance and recognition we have been looking forward to. The European Patent is a major step forward toward making worldwide production of our gyroplane possible."

Groen Brothers Aviation is focusing on the development of the Hawk III gyroplane to fill an order for 200 aircraft from China's Shanghai Energy and Chemical Corp. The value of the Chinese order, announced in Sept. 1996, surpasses $40 million. Modeled on the autogyros of the 1930s but built with advanced 1990s design and performance, the GBA Hawks are a more economical and safer alternative to the helicopter in 90 percent of traditional applications.

The team's goal was to find performance bottlenecks and correct them, and verify that PeopleSoft would perform efficiently at a high user level. By using LoadRto emulate the expected 400 users at 12 locations. The team ran nearly 50 one-hour tests over two months, and identified and isolated a slow-running SQL application, which led them to problems they had made when modifying PeopleSoft. After additional tests with WinRunner confirmed previous LoadRunner findings, problems were fixed, and PeopleSoft upgraded successfully.
