U.S. Grains Council.


The U.S. Grains Council, Washington, D.C., elects a new 14-person board of directors. Terry Wolf of the Illinois Corn Marketing Board is selected to serve as chairman, replacing Don Jacoby Don "Jake" Jacoby was a noted trumpeter, teacher, band leader and author who died December 25, 1992 at age 72.[1] He played with Benny Goodman, Les Brown, did session work for CBS, NBC and soloed at Carnegie Hall. , Agristar Global Networks Ltd., who will continue to serve as immediate past chairman. Other elected officers are: Paul Williams Paul Williams is the name of several musicians:
  • Paul Williams (The Temptations) (1939–1973), one of the lead singers of the popular Motown act The Temptations
, vice chairman, of the Washington Barley Commission; Davis Anderson, treasurer, of GROWMARK Inc.; and Vic Miller, secretary, of the Iowa Corn Promotion Board. The four at-large directors elected are: Tim Burrack, Iowa Corn Promotion Board; Rick Fruth, Ohio Corn Marketing Program; Ken Green, Illinois Corn Marketing Board; and Dave Lyons, Louis Dreyfus Corp. Also elected are five sector directors who are: Gerald Salzman, Case IH, representing the agribusiness sector; Doug Boisen, Nebraska Corn Board, representing the corn sector; Dale Artho, Texas Grain Sorghum sorghum, tall, coarse annual (Sorghum vulgare) of the family Gramineae (grass family), somewhat similar in appearance to corn (but having the grain in a panicle rather than an ear) and used for much the same purposes.  Producers Board, representing the sorghum sector; Jim Broten, North Dakota North Dakota, state in the N central United States. It is bordered by Minnesota, across the Red River of the North (E), South Dakota (S), Montana (W), and the Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba (N).  Barley Council, representing the barley sector; and Don Hutchens, Nebraska Corn Board, representing the state checkoff A system whereby an employer regularly deducts a portion of an employee's wages to pay union dues or initiation fees.

The checkoff system is very attractive to a union since the collection of dues can be costly and time-consuming.
