U.S. EPA PROPOSES SIX ADDITIONS TO FEDERAL SUPERFUND LIST
SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) today proposed six sites in the western region for inclusion on the federal Superfund National Priorities List (NPL). Five sites are located in California and one site is in Guam.
The sites are: Concord Naval Weapons Station
 Concord, Calif.
 NASA Jet Propulsion Lab
 Pasadena, Calif.
 Cooper Drum Co.
 South Gate, Calif.
 GBF Inc. Dump
 Antioch, Calif.
 McCormick and Baxter Creosoting Co.
 Stockton, Calif.
 Andersen Air Force Base
 Yigo, Guam
Sites are proposed or placed in a final status as part of the periodic review and update of the Superfund program. The NPL is U.S. EPA's list of hazardous waste sites potentially posing the greatest long-term threat to public health and the environment. U.S. EPA identifies and ranks NPL sites according to threats to nearby populations through actual or potential contamination of soils, groundwater, surface water or air.
With today's decision, there are now 100 final and 10 proposed sites in Region 9. Region 9 includes the states of Arizona, California, Hawaii, and Nevada and the Pacific Islands. Nationwide, there are 1183 final and 52 proposed sites on the NPL.
