U.S. DRUG TESTING SUBMITS 510K APPLICATION TO FDA

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif., Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Gary Wolff, chief financial officer, announced today that U.S. Drug Testing Inc. (USDT), a wholly owned subsidiary of U.S. Alcohol Testing of America Inc. (USAT) (AMEX: AAA), has submitted an application to the FDA concerning its assay that detects cocaine and its metabolite, benzoylegonine, utilizing its Flow Immunosensor technology. The company believes that its recently completed performance evaluation studies involving urine substantiate the claims made in its FDA filing, which proves equivalency to already-approved devices. Additional FDA submissions of assays concerning the four remaining "National Institute of Drug Abuse" (NIDA) drugs (marijuana, amphetamines, PCP and opiates which include heroin and morphine) are expected over the next several months.
The Flow Immunosensor technology was licensed to the company in January 1992 from the Naval Research Laboratory through the Technology Transfer Act. A subsequent one-year Cooperative Research and Development Agreement was signed in April 1992. The company is extending its Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with the Naval Research Laboratory for an additional six months in order to complete the research of the drug testing assays for saliva.
The company recently began a comprehensive saliva testing study for drugs of abuse using the Flow Immunosensor. In conjunction with various law enforcement agencies, matched blood and saliva samples are being collected in order to validate the reliability and accuracy of the Flow Immunosensor for saliva testing. The company's researchers expect to have accumulated sufficient test data from this program over the next few months. The Flow Immunosensor technology is believed to be the basis for the anticipated creation and marketing of a saliva testing device that is inexpensive, accurate and non-invasive for drugs of abuse.
U.S. Alcohol Testing of America Inc. manufactures evidential and screening equipment for alcohol breath testing analysis used by law enforcement agencies and industry. Its other subsidiaries include Good Ideas Inc., a manufacturer and importer of toys, and U.S. Rubber Recycling Inc., which recycles tires into flooring products.
