U.S. CHARGES 2 IN GUN SALES.

Two men were indicted INDICTED, practice. When a man is accused by a bill of indictment preferred by a grand jury, he is said to be indicted.  Tuesday on federal weapons charges, stemming from an undercover investigation during which guns were sold out of a Glendale church, authorities said.

Arthur Kabadaian, 40, of La Crescenta and Larry Lenenberg, 46, of Tujunga were charged in a 12-count indictment from the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County grand jury, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Jerome Friedberg.

Authorities said Kabadaian had been arranging the weapons deals with the undercover agents out of an office of St. Mary's Armenian Apostolic Church The Armenian Apostolic Church (Armenian: Հայ Առաքելական Եկեղեցի, Hay Arakelagan Yegeghetzi), sometimes called the Armenian Orthodox Church or the  in Glendale.

The case culminated with the seizure of more than 400 guns the men had at a La Crescenta home.

 without a permit, dealing in firearms without a permit, transferring a machine gun and possession of unregistered firearms.

Kabadaian, who is out on $50,000 bond, is charged with possessing and transferring unregistered weapons, including a machine gun, a grenade launcher A grenade launcher is a weapon that launches a grenade greater distances, more accurately, and faster than a soldier could throw by hand. The man-portable grenade launcher , a silencer and a gun that was disguised as a pen, Friedberg said. Lenenberg is out on $15,000 bond.

The indictment says the men sold four 9 mm semiautomatic pistols to an undercover federal agent for $3,500 in October, Friedberg said. In a separate transaction, the men face charges in selling a 9 mm pistol with machine-gun conversion parts for $3,500 on Nov. 1.

In January, the men allegedly agreed to sell six revolvers, an Uzi and a Japanese machine gun for $49,300 to two undercover LAPD 1. LAPD - Link Access Procedure on the D channel.

The weapons were in their possession Jan. 24, the day they were arrested.

Both men are scheduled to be arraigned Monday.

While Lenenberg spoke with undercover agents about weapon sales at gun shows and local restaurants, Kabadaian met with them at a church office and in its parking lot, according to according to

``Kabadaian invited undercover agents into an office located on the lower level of the church building. He explained that the church office was his office,'' daCosta wrote. ``Once in the office Kabadaian proceeded to display 20 firearms.''
