U.S. BANK OF WASHINGTON FIFTH LARGEST AGRICULTURAL LENDER IN AMERICA

SEATTLE, Oct. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. Bank of Washington announced today it is the fifth largest commercial agricultural lender in the United States, with over a quarter-billion dollars in farm loans, according to annual rankings just released by Agri Finance magazine. U.S. Bank of Oregon, with more than $193 million dollars in farm loans, ranked eighth in the nation, based on total farm loans reported to the Federal Reserve System as of March 31, 1993.
"These numbers are further evidence of U.S. Bancorp's longstanding commitment to farmers, who are key to the economies of both Washington and Oregon," said Gary Duim, executive vice president of U.S. Bancorp and president of its corporate banking group.
U.S. Bancorp's commitment to agriculture goes beyond mere dollars. Ag Advance, a unique program to simplify and expidite the loan process for family farmers, is another example of how the company is listening and responding directly to the changing needs of the agricultural community.
Other U.S. Bancorp programs and policies have been designed to help reduce the costs, paperwork and hassles that farmers often encounter when obtaining loans. These policies include loan decisions made by specialists who understand the financial needs of farmers.
"Our goal is not to be the biggest ag lender, although we are pleased about our ranking," Duim noted. "Out goal is to be the best lender meeting the needs of agriculture in our region."
U.S. Bank of Washington is a subsidiary of U.S. Bancorp, the largest bank holding company headquartered in the Northwest. With assets of $21 billion as of Sept. 30, 1993, U.S. Bancorp is one of the nation's 35 largest bank holding companies, and has consistently ranked among the top tier of these companies in performance and capital strength. Other U.S. Bancorp bank subsidiaries include U.S. Bank of Oregon; U.S. Bank of California; U.S. Bank of Nevada; U.S. Bank of Idaho and U.S. Bank (Canada).
