U.S. Army Purchases Satellite Demonstrators from Torrey Communications; Demonstration Terminals Will Validate New Satellite-Based Voice and Data System.


SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 18, 1998--Torrey Communications Corp. (Torreycom), formerly Torrey Science Corp., announced today that the U.S. Army has ordered an aircraft demonstration unit from the company to demonstrate the proposed MUBLCOM MUBLCOM Multiple Path Beyond Line-of-sight Communications  voice/data communication system.

This is the company's second order for the MUBLCOM communication system. The first system is scheduled to be launched late this year. MUBLCOM provides secure mobile communications directly between small hand-held terminals used by forces in the field.

The system supports combat networks and other special mission requirements, including long-range surveillance, fire support and command communications. The contract for the airborne communication relay and handheld units for the Army is valued at $453,000. The U.S. Army's Communications Electronics Command at Fort Monmouth Fort Monmouth is a United States Army installation in Eatontown, Tinton Falls and Oceanport, New Jersey, and about one mile from the Atlantic Ocean. The base covers nearly 1,126 acres of land, from the Shrewsbury River west to Route 35, called Main Post. , N.J., is managing the effort.
