U.S. Army Orders Additional Helicopter Refueling Systems; Equipment Bound for Afghanistan, Iraq.


ONTARIO, Calif. -- The U.S. Army has placed an order with BAE Systems BAE Systems

) is purchasing the refueling systems.

"We are pleased to partner with BAE Systems to ensure that our helicopter fleet is equipped with the latest and most modern refueling capability available in the market," said Mathew Marturano, system acquisition manager of the Army's Force Projection The ability to project the military element of national power from the continental United States (CONUS) or another theater, in response to requirements for military operations. The latest booking is the ninth order in a production run that is expected to total 372 systems.

"The system also is designated as a critical component of the Army's modernization plan."

AAFARS is a modular, lightweight, portable combat refueling system designed for rapid refueling of forward-area military helicopters Military helicopters are helicopters used by military forces. The system has a 240 gallon-per-minute pump that can fuel four helicopters simultaneously at a rate of 55 gallons per minute each.
