U.S. Army Aviation Units Report Safety and Readiness Improvement From IAC's Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) Systems; Intelligent Automation Corporation's IAC 1209 HUMS Technology Was Developed In Cooperation with U.S. Army R & D.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Intelligent Automation Corporation (IAC) (www.iac-online.com) announced that the U.S. Army has gained a force multiplier capability as a result of the IAC 1209 condition based readiness technology. The U.S. Army's 3rd Aviation Regiment (Attack Reconnaissance), 3rd Aviation Brigade (3-3 ARB) reported a 10% readiness improvement using the IAC 1209 condition based maintenance (CBM) technology. IAC officials made their announcement in conjunction with the Army Aviation Association of America (AAAA) 2006 Annual Convention (IAC AAAA Booth 219).

In their after action report, the 3-3 ARB stated, "As a medium to spearhead the initiative for Condition Based Maintenance in U.S. Army Aviation, VMEP (Vibration Management Enhancement Program) has provided the battalion the capability to conduct smarter and more efficient maintenance. The effects of this newly acquired capability were increased safety, increased troubleshooting and diagnosis ability, decreased maintenance cost, and decreased aircraft down-time which all led to maximized combat power generation for the Commander."

As a result of the demonstrated performance of the IAC 1209, the U.S. Army granted Air Worthiness Releases (AWR) or "maintenance credits" for U.S. Army aircraft equipped with the IAC 1209 Health and Usage Monitoring System (HUMS) systems.

With over 180 helicopters instrumented with the IAC 1209 HUMS, the U.S. Army sees Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) as a way to reduce high O&M costs for its aircraft fleet. The U.S. Army has granted the following Air Worthiness Releases (AWR) or "maintenance credits" for aircraft equipped with IAC HUMS systems:

--AH-64 Apache - Eliminate Main rotor swashplate inspection - Saves 7.4 maintenance man hours and 5.9 hours aircraft downtime

--AH-64 Apache - Eliminate APU Clutch vibration check and extend mount inspection - Saves 28 hours maintenance man hours and 9 hours aircraft downtime

--AH-64 Apache - Aft hanger bearing - IAC HUMS monitoring increases TBO 10%

--AH-64 Apache - Forward hanger bearing - IAC HUMS monitoring increases TBO 10%

--UH-60 Blackhawk - Oil Cooler fan - HUMS monitoring increases TBO 20%

--UH-60 Blackhawk - Eliminate UH-60 Engine Output Drive Shaft 120 hour inspection - saves 3.3 man hours and 1.8 aircraft downtime
