U.S. Army Aviation Units Report Safety and Readiness Improvement From IAC's Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) Systems; Intelligent Automation Corporation's IAC 1209 HUMS Technology Was Developed In Cooperation with U.S. Army R & D.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Intelligent Automation Corporation (IAC (1) (InterApplication Communications) The interprocess communications capability in the Macintosh starting with System 7.0. The U.S. Army's 3rd Aviation Regiment (Attack Reconnaissance), 3rd Aviation Brigade (3-3 ARB) reported a 10% readiness improvement using the IAC 1209 condition based maintenance Overview
When you have some type of equipment running, and it is important for you to keep it running, you normally need to perform some sort of maintenance on it. At least you should know whether or not it is running in a satisfactory manner.

In their after action report, the 3-3 ARB stated, "As a medium to spearhead the initiative for Condition Based Maintenance in U.S. Army Aviation, VMEP VMEP Vibration Management Enhancement Program (US Army)
VMEP Vibration Management Enhancement Program
(Vibration Management Enhancement Program) has provided the battalion the capability to conduct smarter and more efficient maintenance. The effects of this newly acquired capability were increased safety, increased troubleshooting and diagnosis ability, decreased maintenance cost, and decreased aircraft down-time which all led to maximized combat power generation for the Commander."

As a result of the demonstrated performance of the IAC 1209, the U.S. Army granted Air Worthiness Releases (AWR AWR Automatic Workload Repository (Oracle database)

IAC Chief Executive Officer Jeff Goodrich, "Whether on the front lines in Iraq and Afghanistan or in rescue operations like we saw during Hurricane Katrina, lives depend on keeping these helicopters in the air. Our team of dedicated professionals is driven to provide our nation's heroes with mission-critical, leading edge technology to keep our men and women safe."

With over 180 helicopters instrumented with the IAC 1209 HUMS, the U.S. Army sees Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) as a way to reduce high O&M costs for its aircraft fleet. The U.S. Army has granted the following Air Worthiness Releases (AWR) or "maintenance credits" for aircraft equipped with IAC HUMS systems:

--AH-64 Apache - Eliminate Main rotor swashplate inspection - Saves 7.4 maintenance man hours and 5.9 hours aircraft downtime

--AH-64 Apache - Eliminate APU APU Azusa Pacific University

helicopters. The dramatic results our system is demonstrating in harsh operational environments when operated only by soldiers is providing the Army with a key technology enabler that is transforming the way maintenance is done today. We are delighted to offer our customers the only HUMS that can deliver the latest AWR benefits for both the Apache and Blackhawk helicopters, which I believe will enable better on-site and remote support for our customers."

The IAC 1209 HUMS, also known as the MSPU MSPU Message Switch Peripheral Unit
MSPU Modernized Signal Processor Unit
(Modern Signal Processing Unit) in the U.S. Army, is a derivative of the U.S. Army's successful Vibration Management Enhancement Program (VMEP). VMEP has a proven record of accomplishment in harsh operational conditions, including Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kosovo.

About The IAC 1209 HUMS: A Proven CBM Technology

The IAC-1209 unique data acquisition and measurement features specifically designed for the on board helicopter application includes:

--Over a 100dB of vibration acquisition dynamic range allowing the detection of small signals such as main rotor track and balance vibration in a large ambient vibration environment such as produced by a gearbox.

--Six channels of simultaneous vibration acquisition with track allowing correlation of vibration signals.

--Synchronous averaging enabling the detection of single gear faults in a complex gearbox with specialized algorithms.

The IAC 1209 is a high performance, lightweight, and affordable system fully certified to FAA DO-160D / DO-178B Level D standards selected by Bell Helicopter for their flagship Bell 412 helicopter. The fully military qualified IAC 1209 automatically monitors all dynamic components, including turbine engines, using an advanced regime recognition technology developed by IAC.
