U.S. ATHLETES GATHER AT TAMPA'S BUSCH GARDENS FOR OLYMPIC SEND-OFF CELEBRATION

U.S. ATHLETES GATHER AT TAMPA'S BUSCH GARDENS
 FOR OLYMPIC SEND-OFF CELEBRATION
TAMPA, Fla., July 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Busch Gardens opens its Olympic Village today as the Tampa theme park plays host to U.S. Olympic athletes on their way to the 1992 Summer Games in Barcelona.
As an official 1992 United States Olympic Team sponsor, Busch Gardens is offering the Olympic Village as part of the festivities planned for the official send-off of the team which passes through the Tampa Bay area beginning July 6 and ending July 22.
The Olympic Village is the focal point for guests in search of a glimpse of American athletes bound for Barcelona. Planned activities include an entertainment salute called "Olympic Celebration." A song and dance revue held daily, the show will introduce an average of 30 Olympians to park guests. Ten additional performers dressed in athletic costuming complete the show's cast.
The Olympic Village also houses sponsor tents and is the designated area for the sale of official U.S. Olympic Team merchandise. Giveaways and photo opportunities with America's athletic champions will also take place in the village on a daily basis. Media representatives from around the country are also expected to pass through the Village as they cover the stories of athletes in search of gold.
Joe Fincher, executive vice president and general manager of Busch Gardens, explained that the Olympic Village gives park guests a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get close to the Olympians. "These young people are heroes and as a leader in the family entertainment business, we are proud to host Olympic Village as our part of the official send-off activities," said Fincher.
The Olympic Village encompasses 40,000 square feet and resembles a portion of a track and field area. Guests will become immersed in Olympic happenings once they pass under the arched entryway near the park's Morrocan Palace.
Olympic Village is open to park guests from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., which are regular park hours. There will be no additional charge for entry to Olympic Village.
Busch Gardens, an Anheuser-Busch theme park, is a 300-acre family entertainment center featuring thrill rides, live entertainment, animal exhibits, shops, restaurants and games in eight distinctly themed sections which capture the spirit of turn-of-the-century Africa. The park ranks among the top zoos in the country with more than 3,400 animals and is the most popular tourist attraction on Florida's west coast.
