U.K. dominates Pulcinella Awards. (World).


As Cartoons on the Bay, the annual festival of television animation organized by Rai Trade, drew to a close in Positano, Italy, on April 22, it was clear that Great Britain Great Britain, officially United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, constitutional monarchy (2005 est. pop. 60,441,000), 94,226 sq mi (244,044 sq km), on the British Isles, off W Europe. The country is often referred to simply as Britain.  was going home this year's biggest winner. The U.K. nabbed four of the 10 Pulcinella Awards given out at the festival, including the top honor, "Best Program of the Year," for War Game (pictured below), an English TV-movie directed by Michael Foreman For the author and illustrator, see Michael Foreman (author / illustrator)

Two of the U.K.'s four Pulcinellas went to Eddy & the Bear, for "Best Character of the Year" and "Best TV Series for Infants." The charming series, produced by Collingwood O'Hare Collingwood O'Hare is a TV animation studio based in London headed by writer/director Tony Collingwood and producer Christopher O'Hare. Responsible for animated TV series 'Oscar's Orchestra', 'Dennis the Menace', 'Gordon the Garden Gnome', 'Yoko! Jakamoko! Toto!' and 'The Secret  Entertainment, centers on a bear who has befriended a human youngster named Eddy. Together the two friends learn to perceive the wonders of nature.

Clinching the final Pulcinella for Great Britain was Yoko! Jakamoko! Toto! The creative new show took home the award for "Best Pilot Program."

The second most successful nation at this year's animation festival was France, which took home two of the Pulcinella prizes. The first, for "Best TV Series for All Audiences," went to The New Adventures of Lucky Luke, a comic-strip that has made a transition to cartoon format. France received its other honor for Marcellin Caillou by Harold Peeble, which was named "Best TV Movie."

Other Pulcinella winners included: America's Lloyd in Space Lloyd in Space is an animated television series, created by Joe Ansolabehere and Paul Germain (creators of Recess), and released in 2001. The pilot was written by Ansolabehere, Germain and Mark Drop. The characters were designed by Eric Keyes. , produced by Walt Disney Noun 1.
