Why he loves jazz: ``Jazz has a lot of harmonic and melodic value that most pop does not have. And that's why I also enjoy classical music, since jazz arives from classical music. And I love the swinging rhythm of jazz - you can't get better than swing, for me. Soloing frees my heart. It allows me to be creative, like writing short stories. It's how I talk.''

Where U've seen him before: Jazz Bakery, Catalina's, the Camarillo Arts & Jazz Festival and elsewhere.

Thoughts on playing live: ``I've been told I have a good stage presence, and to be able to watch people react to my playing - that's what it's all about. Sharing energy.''

The jazz life: ``I'm not looking to only play jazz for a living. I'm a woodwinds player, so I play classical and also funk and pop, if I need to. But my life revolves around jazz. I want to be very professional and classy like Duke Ellington.''
