His last two albums -- ``Go Itsy'' and 2004's ``No More Monkeys'' -- received wide critical acclaim, including praise from The Beat magazine, which called his music ``a very captivating cap·ti·vate tr.v. cap·ti·vat·ed, cap·ti·vat·ing, cap·ti·vates 1. Asheba cock-a-doodle-doos his way through the opener ``All Around the Kitchen'' before he launches into the story of ``Amahlittle Pumpkin'' and, later, of a bird that begs not to be caged in ``Picoplat Calypso.'' He even throws some learning into the mix with ``ABC ABC in full American Broadcasting Co. Major U.S. television network. Here, a cadre of folk musicians breathe new life into old favorites and introduce us to new ones like Zoe Lewis' zany ``Sheep.'' Victor Johnson's swampy take on ``This Old Man'' opens the 12-track disc sure to have the whole family singing along. Just try to get these songs out of your head. Standouts include Michelle Shocked's Texas-swing version of the ``Pinocchio'' classic ``Got No Strings,'' Leon Redbone's croaker croaker, member of the abundant and varied family Sciaenidae, carnivorous, spiny-finned fishes including the weakfishes, the drums, and the whitings. The croaker has a compressed, elongated body similar to that of the bass. ``Polly Wolly Doodle'' and Brady Rymer's eternally optimistic ``It's All How You Look at It,'' which recalls a young Bob Dylan. -- S.B.
