Tyco Electronics Announces the World's First Fully Flexible Power System.

Tyco Electronics Power Systems today unveiled the Infinity platform, a unique energy system capable of handling the power requirements of a wide variety of telecommunications applications.

A single cabinet solution can be configured using an array of power component building blocks, allowing customers to match exact load requirements for their application. Infinity creates customer savings on spares inventories due to the use of common system components, as well as training, as field engineers need only be trained on a single cabinet system. The Infinity is targeted at a broad range of applications including broadband, optical and wireless networks.

The Infinity is a fully flexible platform capable of supporting a wide choice of controllers, distribution units, rectifiers and batteries. This 48V platform covers 800W to 15,000W total DC power from a single cabinet configuration, allowing customers to make custom power adjustments whenever they are needed.

An innovative low profile shelf design can accommodate a wide variety of rectifiers; 800W, 1200W, 1500W and 2500W. Total cost of ownership can be reduced as rectifiers can be switched without changing the shelf itself. Different power rectifiers can also be mixed-and-matched to support exact power requirements.

Each rectifier can also support additional control and communications features through a PCMCIA card. These PCMCIA cards can be used to drive a variety of controller options from a standard power alarms scheme, through remote monitoring and display options up to a fully Web-based remote monitoring and control option. The PCMCIA cards can also be used to drive custom controller designs.

The Infinity platform may be equipped with up to four innovative battery shelves each of which can accommodate a 150 Ampere hour capacity 48 Volt battery string, providing over 600 Ampere hour total battery capacity. A variety of other battery configurations from multiple suppliers may be accommodated allowing the battery autonomy to be tailored for the specific site load requirements. Each battery shelf also includes an integral battery isolator.

DC distribution can be provided via either DIN style thermal magnetic or plug in hydraulic circuit breakers. Depending on the style and rating of the circuit breakers chosen, the DC distribution unit can accommodate up to 24 single pole circuit breakers equipped with trip alarms.

A choice of five cabinet sizes, height ranging from 1.5m to 2.2m and a choice of 600x600mm or 600x400mm footprints, will enable Infinity to easily fit into most environments.
