Two-child families.


New Delhi--Hindu nationalists in the western Indian state of Gujarat Gujarat (gjərät`), state (2001 provisional pop. 50,596,992), c.75,686 sq mi (196,077 sq km), W India, on the Arabian Sea.  have proposed a law limiting families to two children. Gujarat (Pop. 50.5 million) has had a 20% increase in population since 1991. Indian Catholic authorities have denounced the proposed law. The Bishop of Ahmedabad, Stanislaus Fernandes, has called it a "violation of basic human rights." Fr.
