Two unusual concentrates for film & packaging.

Two specialized types of additive masterbatches for packaging were recently introduced by Ampacet Corp., Tarrytown, N.Y. One is a desiccant desiccant /des·ic·cant/ (des´i-kant)
1. promoting dryness.

2. an agent that promotes dryness.

des·ic·cant
n.
 additive for LDPE LDPE
abbr.
low-density polyethylene
and LLDPE LLDPE Linear Low Density Polyethylene  film to help protect the contents of the package from moisture penetration. Ampacet Product 101499 is aimed at food and pharmaceutical applications, where it reportedly can extend shell life and/or permit cost savings through downgauging. The additive does confer some haze to the film.

The second unusual new product is a family of molecular tracers Tracers

Refers to investment trusts which are populated by corporate bonds. In October 2001, Morgan Stanley's Tradable Custodial Receipts (Tracers) was launched. Tracers contain a number of coporate bonds and credit default swaps which are selected for liquidity and diversity.
for flexible and rigid packaging that add distinct chemical "signatures" to plastic products. These tracers can be used to prevent counterfeiting counterfeiting, manufacturing spurious coins, paper money, or evidences of governmental obligation (e.g., bonds) in the semblance of the true. There must be sufficient resemblance to the genuine article to deceive a person using ordinary caution. , detect theft, and provide traceability for inventory and quality record keeping. New AmpaTrace technology can be applied to injection and blow molding, extrusion, and other processing methods. A variety of substances can be incorporated at parts-per-million levels and then traced by chemical analysis or radio-frequency detection. Different types, amounts, and proportions of tracers can be combined to create unique "fingerprints" for products. They can be included in additive masterbatches or supplied as their own masterbatch.
