permits using a unique online service -- PermitsNOW.com - which connects builders and other contractors with government permit agencies over the Web.

PermitsNOW.com, a web-based solution to the traditionally manual system of processing government permits and licenses, leverages the power of the Internet and allows applicants to submit permit requests directly to a government agency online. The system saves time and money for local permit officials while simultaneously simplifying access for contractors and citizens alike.

PermitsNOW.com provides its service to agencies free of charge, significantly reduces processor errors and saves permit processing time. Contractors can submit permits, track their status and pay associated fees online 24-hours-a-day, seven- days-a-week. The usual turnaround time (1) In batch processing, the time it takes to receive finished reports after submission of documents or files for processing. In an online environment, turnaround time is the same as response time.  for processing permits with PermitsNOW.com is less than 24 hours, rather than the days it often takes to travel to congested con·gest·ed

"Ultimately, the service is for the public," said John Webster, chief executive officer of PermitsNOW.com. "The savings in time and money is passed on to the contractor or private citizen who is building a new home, doing a renovation or constructing a commercial building," said Webster. "We are responding to the overwhelming desire of citizens to do business with government on line." Webster pointed to a recent national survey of 1005 adults in which 61 percent of respondents In the context of marketing research, a representative sample drawn from a larger population of people from whom information is collected and used to develop or confirm marketing strategy.  said that local government would be more effective if citizens could do business with it over the Internet.

Loudoun County, VA began offering online permitting as a service to local contractors last February, with a small group of nine participating contractors who have successfully processed more than 800 plumbing and gas fitting permits to date. County officials have over 200 contractors waiting to begin using the system the end of July.

Baltimore County, MD began using the system in late April and currently has three electrical contractors registered who have processed nearly 300 electrical permits through the system. In addition, Baltimore County has successfully managed the fee transactions of its permits in excess of $6,000 dollars. County officials anticipate more than 130 contractors will be using the system by the end of July.

Webster anticipates that PermitsNOW will be available to over 500 contractors in more than 12 jurisdictions in the Washington DC Metropolitan area by the end July; and 98 additional jurisdictions by the end of the year, including the Atlanta, Dallas, Phoenix, and Orange County metropolitan markets.

"Obtaining permits online has made our work much easier," said Nicole Jaimeyfield of Breedan Plumbing in Fairfax, Virginia Fairfax is an independent city forming an enclave within the confines of Fairfax County, in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Although politically independent of the surrounding county, the City of Fairfax is nevertheless its county seatGR6. . "Now Loudoun County is the best jurisdiction for us to deal with, since we don't have to go down to the county building to get permits. I'm looking forward to more counties using this quick and simple system."
