History In 1923, the people of Pasadena approved a bond measure issuing $3.5 million towards the development of a civic center. Seismic Upgrade and Rehabilitation Project in Pasadena, Calif., for which AECOM served as the construction manager, was named an OCEA finalist based on the comprehensive program's state-of-the-art structural seismic upgrades, interior renovation and the application of new building technology. The $117-million project included the replacement of out-dated building systems and the use of new fire safety systems. The OCEA award was established in 1960 to honor the project that best illustrates superior civil engineering skills and represents a significant contribution to civil engineering progress and society. Honoring an overall project, rather than an individual, the award recognizes the contributions of many engineers. AECOM has been part of the project teams of three previous OCEA award winners: Rion-Antirion Bridge, Corinthian Straits, Greece (2005); Glenwood Canyon Project, Glenwood Canyon, Colorado (1993); and Southwest Corridor Project, Boston, Massachusetts (1988).
