Tutor-Saliba-Perini wins Metro Rail pact

One out of two construction firms recommended by a subsidiary of the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County Transportation Commission was awarded a contract Jan. 23 begin work on the second leg of the Metro Rail subway subway: see rapid transit.

Tutor-Saliba-Perini was awarded a $53 million contract to construct the underground station at Wilshire Boulevard Wilshire Boulevard is one of the principal east-west arterial roads in Los Angeles, California, United States. It was named for H. Gaylord Wilshire (1861-1927), an Ohio native who made and lost fortunes in real estate, farming, and gold mining.  and Western Avenue, after the construction company was recommednded by the Rail Construction Corp., a building and enginerring subsidiary of the LACTC LACTC Los Angeles County Transportation Commission .

Tutor-Saliba-Perini is currently working on two stations - one at Union Station the other at Wilshire/Alvarado - for the first phase of Metro Rail.

Rail Construction Corp. President Ed McSpedon said that phase two of the Metro Rail project, costing $1.44 billion to build, will not be plagued with the problem of cost overruns Noun 1. cost overrun - excess of cost over budget; "the cost overrun necessitated an additional allocation of funds in the budget"
cost - the total spent for goods or services including money and time and labor
, like the additional $4.3 million that was spent on the first phase of the project, to bring its total cost to $3.9 billion.
