Turtle Beach Systems Announces New CD-ROM Products; Expands Its Multimedia Offerings With New CD-ROM Drives and Changers.


FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 28, 1995--Turtle Beach Systems,Inc., the leading supplier of award-winning wavetable A group of sampled sound waves used in MIDI. See wavetable synthesis and MIDI.

Turtle Beach's new CD-ROM products include new high-speed 8X, 6X and 4X drives and upgrade kits, which include sound boards; 3-disk and 7-disk CD-ROM changers.

Turtle Beach See Voyetra.  brings to the optical storage market the reputation it has achieved in sound cards to deliver high quality products. Turtle Beach is in a unique position as a vendor able to bundle its own brand-name wavetable sound cards and CD-ROM drives to meet the new MPC-3 standard established by the Multimedia PC Board, which specifies a 4X drive, wavetable card and Pentium processor as the minimum configuration to optimize multimedia applications.

Turtle Beach offers a two-year warranty on all of its CD-ROM products, as well as technical support seven days a week, 12 hours a day for users and resellers. All Turtle Beach drives and upgrade kits come with an Internet CD-ROM, which provides a tutorial on using the Internet, a tour of the WorldWide Web, plus free introductory access to major providers such as America On-Line and Compuserve.

CD-ROM Drive kits.

Turtle Beach offers a choice of 8X, 6X and 4X CD-ROM internal drive kits and upgrade kits. The 8X drives feature an unprecedented 140ms seek time, 256Kb buffer and one to two million bytes per second transfer rate, all of which contribute to faster file transfers and sharper screen displays. The 6X drives feature a 110ms seek time, 256Kb buffer and 900 Kbps transfer rate. Both 8X and 6X drives can be used as CD audio players without software controls. 3, Photo CD, multisession A compact disc capability in which data are recorded in more than one session. Each subsequent recording session can be linked to the previous so that they all appear as one. Each session adds overhead on the disc, because lead-in and lead-out sectors must be recorded each time, which  CD-I (Compact Disc-Interactive) A compact disc format developed by Philips and Sony that held text, audio and animated graphics. It required a CD-I player that contained its own operating system.  and MPEG (Moving Pictures Experts Group) An ISO/ITU standard for compressing digital video. Pronounced "em-peg," it is the universal standard for digital terrestrial, cable and satellite TV, DVDs and digital video recorders (DVRs). .

The drive kits are available with a selection of games (eight Microsoft Home games and 50 games from Turtle Beach), and Grolier's Encyclopedia. All Turtle Beach drives come with an internet CD-ROM which has a tutorial, a tour of the WorldWide Web and free introductory time for major providers such as CompuServe and America OnLine.

The upgrade kits include a Turtle Beach 16-bit or 32-voice wavetable, Sound Blaster-compatible stereo sound card, speakers, necessary cables, and Edutainment software (Chessmaster, typing, world atlas), eight Microsoft Home games, 50 additional games from Turtle beach, and Grolier's Encyclopedia, and an Intenet CD-ROM.

The Turtle Beach TBS-7400 is a 4X seven-disc external changer with very high audio quality - audio CDs can be played in any slot. It features a super-fast 250ms access speed and 600 Kbps data transfer rate. The TBS-7400 is compatible with IBM-compatible PCs (Windows 95, Windows, NT, OS/2 DOS), as well as Macintosh systems. Accompanying software gives users on-screen on·screen or on-screen

The TBS-3000 is a 4X internal (half-height) three-disc changer featuring 195ms access time and 600 Kbps transfer rate. It is compatible with CD-DA (Compact Disc-Digital Audio) The original compact disc format developed by Sony and Philips in the 1980s, which was designed for audio only. Since "CD" is used loosely for all Compact Disc formats, the CD-DA designation differentiates a music disc or player , CD-ROM XA and multisession photo CD. The TBS-3000 includes high quality 14-watt speakers and goose neck microphone. The TBS-7400 is compatible with IBM-compatible PCs (Windows 95, Windows, NT, OS/2 DOS).

Both changers feature a buffer size of 256Kb for smooth video and better sound. The access time between discs is almost immediate, at under 2.5 seconds, for both changers. Both include professional quality headphones Head-mounted speakers. Headphones have a strap that rests on top of the head, positioning a pair of speakers over both ears.
