Turning center. (In Gear).

Who: Mori Seiki [Mori Seiki - The Machine Tool Company -] [1] is a Japan-based company primarily engaged in the manufacture and sale of machine tools. It was established in 1948 and is headquartered in Nagoya City, Japan.  (Irving, TX)

What: MT2500 multi-axis turning center

Why you should care: Because this machine integrates the capabilities of both a lathe lathe (lāth), machine tool for holding and turning metal, wood, plastic, or other material against a cutting tool to form a cylindrical product or part. It also drills, bores, polishes, grinds, makes threads, and performs other operations.  and a machining center, Mori Seiki says it is well-suited for lean manufacturing Lean manufacturing is the production of goods using less of everything compared to mass production: less human effort, less manufacturing space, less investment in tools, and less engineering time to develop a new product.  environments where job-shop type production is needed to increase production efficiency. That is, it eliminates partially-processed work-in-process inventory by completing all operations on one machine, and ensures higher accuracy since parts do not have to be removed and installed multiple times.

Pertinent Data: The MT2500 handles six-inch class work-pieces and can machine small, highly-complex work-pieces as well as mass-produce pieces that require mainly turning operations. A zero-center headstock headstock

substantial wooden or metal fixed apparatus for restraining a cow by the neck in a crush, milking parlor or feed stalls. There is a bar or tongue which is swiveled at the bottom and can be opened at the top.
minimizes the displacement of the spindle center position and improves machining accuracy. The center's orthogonal At right angles. The term is used to describe electronic signals that appear at 90 degree angles to each other. It is also widely used to describe conditions that are contradictory, or opposite, rather than in parallel or in sync with each other.  Y-axis structure enhances chip removal, and a rolling guideway for the Y- and Z-axes provides highly rigid cutting capacity.
