Turner team breaks ground on $100 million Long Beach Aquarium.

: TUR tur: see ibex. ), the nation's leading general builder, today announced that it has broken ground on the $100 million Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific The Aquarium of the Pacific is located in the city of Long Beach, California at the mouth of the Los Angeles River. The aquarium features a collection of over 12,500 animals representing almost 1,000 different species. .

This aquarium contains more than 156,000 square feet of exhibits, interactive displays, classrooms, offices, an auditorium, retail shop, and restaurant. The aquarium will hold more than one million gallons of water with over 40 exhibits highlighting the diverse waters of the Pacific Ocean.

Located on a waterfront site in Long Beach, California Long Beach is a city located in southern Los Angeles County, California, USA, on the Pacific coast. It borders Orange County on its southeast edge. It is about 20 miles (30 km) south of downtown Los Angeles. , the aquarium is the first phase of construction included in the Queensway Bay Master Plan. This development plan will enhance the existing Long Beach Convention Center and hotel, downtown marina and Shoreline Village, and the Queen Mary attraction.

Milestone dates for this exciting project will include mat slab pours, installation of major acrylic panels and completion of the enclosure in 1996. In 1997, the major tanks will have water tests and the first animals will be brought into the exhibits. The grand opening gala and completion of the aquarium is scheduled for 1998.
