New A7V Line's Flexibility and Range of Communications Interfaces

Ideal for Electronic Motor Drives, VoIP Phones and Industrial

Automation

Further signifying the flexibility of its configurable system-on-chip (CSoC) technology, Triscend Corporation today unveiled the newest family of products in its A7(TM) line of ARM7TDMI(TM)-based 32-bit CSoCs. The A7V family builds on the proven capabilities of Triscend's A7S field-configurable devices, delivering a set of products with unprecedented design flexibility and networking capabilities, optimized for a range of key new target applications.

The new A7V family is optimized for use in complex electronic motor drives (EMDs). EMDs use processors with pulse-width modulators (PWMs), and are employed in a wide range of consumer and computing products, from cell phone vibrators and hard drives to washing machines. According to market-research firm Drives Research Corp., the worldwide market for EMDs will reach $19.1 billion in 2005 (up nearly 53 percent from $12.5 billion in 2000), fueled by the rapid rise of automation, increased requirements for energy efficiency, and production flexibility.

Until now, EMD EMD Electromechanical dissociation, see there  designers had little freedom to customize the PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) A modulation technique that generates variable-width pulses to represent the amplitude of an analog input signal. Like its fixed-width pulse density modulation (PDM) cousin, the output switching transistor is on more of the time for a . The same was true of sensor logic, such as that deployed in quadrature quadrature, in astronomy, arrangement of two celestial bodies at right angles to each other as viewed from a reference point. Triscend's A7V CSoC is the first solution to offer these designers full configurability, enabling them to use their PWM or QEI QEI Qualified Elevator Inspector (NAESA)

module design of choice--whether delivered with Triscend's FastChip(R) 3.0 development system (announced separately today), developed in-house or acquired from a third-party vendor. This flexibility translates to significant cost and time savings for the designer. Features can be implemented or changed quickly using the A7V's Configurable System Logic (CSL (Computerese as a Second Language) Said of people who love to speak high-tech words even though they often use them erroneously. The A7V family features the industry's most extensive set of communications interfaces on any ARM7TDMI-based system-on-chip, including, USB USB

and TWSI. No other embedded solution offers this range of on-chip interfaces, making the A7V ideally suited not only for EMDs, but also for other products requiring one or more of these communications capabilities in a single, easily implemented SoC device. Other products include Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) phones, presentation projectors, thermal printers for automated teller machines automated teller machine (ATM), device used by bank customers to process account transactions. Typically, a user inserts into the ATM a special plastic card that is encoded with information on a magnetic strip. , and most industrial automation applications.

"As the industry leader in CSoC solutions, we recognize that a wide range of markets stand to benefit from our technology," said Reynette Au, Triscend president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. . "In determining the features to incorporate into our next-generation A7 products, we looked carefully at which markets were being hindered by the lack of flexible embedded solutions. The A7V is the result of our focus on the needs of OEMs implementing embedded-system designs for high-demand end products."

To accommodate a variety of product designs and cost requirements, the A7Vx05 is available in four different configurations, ranging from the entry-level A7VL05, a 208-pin PQFP (Plastic Quad Flat Package) Refers to many varieties of QFP chip packages, which are molded in plastic. See QFP. , to the full-featured A7VT05, which includes all of the available communications interfaces. The A7VT05 and the other two devices--A7VE05 and A7VC05--are packaged in 324-pin BGAs. Customers can evaluate the A7V family using the A7V Development Kit, available in Q4 2003.

Editors interested in learning more about the newest addition to Triscend's powerful A7 family of CSoCs are invited to visit Triscend at Booth #1015 during the Embedded Systems Conference, September 16-17, at Boston's Hynes Convention Center The John B. Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center located in Boston's Back Bay has 193,000 square feet (0 m) of exhibit space and can accommodate up to four concurrent events. .
