And for five of the six years she's been competing she has been the IronKids Triathlon triathlon, athletic event made up of three contests. Since the 1970s the term has come to mean especially a race combining swimming, bicycling, and running. A notable example is Hawaii's Ironman Triathlon, held since 1978, which features a 2. National Champion in her age group. Kelsey, who lives in Austin, Texas, travels all over the country for her 200-meter swims/10K bike races/2K runs. Kelsey exclaims, "The first year I won the national championship was the most exciting. I'd been in second the whole race until the girl in front had to stop, and I kept going right past her." Kelsey spends almost all her time competing. She says she gets a real rush when flying past a competitor on her way to the finish line. This star athlete agrees that there is a great sense of accomplishment in simply finishing a race, but nothing quite compares to being No. 1. One day she'd like to compete in the Olympics and even the Ironman, the most arduous ar·du·ous adj. 1.
